Tyler Durden’s anti-consumerism quotes

The following are some quotes from my fav movie. They are Tyler Durden’s anti-consumerism quotes that captured my attention - (Fight Club, 1999)

“Like everyone else, I had become a slave to the IKEA nesting instinct. If I saw something clever like the coffee table in the shape of a yin and yang,I had to have it. I would flip through catalogs and wonder, “What kind of dining set defines me as a person?” I had it all. Even the glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections, proof they were crafted by the honest, simple, hard-working indigenous peoples of wherever.” -Ikea Boy

"You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

“The things you own end up owning you.”

“We’re consumers. We are bi-products of a lifestyle obsession. Murder, crime, poverty, these things don’t concern me. What concerns me are celebrity magazines, television with 500 channels, some guy’s name on my underwear.”

“I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars.”

“Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need.”

“We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.”

I'm a Ikea girl, all the way, really. I realized it after watching the movie ... a typical bi-product of a lifestyle obsession. I guess it gets to you when you make your own money and pay your own bills.

I have lost everything I owned 3 times. Katrina, Fire, getting laid off and having to sell everything to make ends meet. I went from a three story house to a loft apartment and have never looked back. I have a good job again and pay my own bills and have 0 dept because I don't spend any money on things I don't need. Most everything I own is second hand, made by me, etc. Very little is bought. Anyway, I totally recommend the "simple life" to everyone. I enjoyed the quotes. Thank you!
